Littleport is a very large parish a few miles north of Ely. The town has a population of some 8,370. A feature of this Fenland town is the Parish Church in the centre. The west tower is tall and dominant, and it retains various styles of medieval architecture. Littleport is remembered for its hunger riots in 1816 when local people marched to Ely to protest.
Today, Littleport has a bright shopping area, an expanding residential area and a sports and leisure centre. The A10 Littleport bypass has greatly improved connections to the south, and the electrified Cambridge to King's Lynn railway link provides access to Cambridge and London. Nearby attractions include the Welney Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust.
