Soham

Soham lies half-way between Ely and Newmarket, on the A142. It has a population of 10,240 for which it provides local shopping and other services, including a sports centre.

Soham was one of the earliest places in East Anglia chosen by a monastic community. However, Soham Abbey, like Ely, was destroyed in the great Danish raids. Soham has, nevertheless, a splendid parish church.

Nearby attractions include the National Trust's Wicken Fen and the Shade and Downfield Windmills. Isleham Priory is close by and dates from 1090.
